Jim Lokay’s Career in Journalism
Lokay’s journey started when he was a talkative young boy back in his childhood days. He’d literally talk to anyone, even strangers just to satisfy his urge for talking. His peers wanted him to vie for the presidency but he decided that he’d pursue a career in journalism.
He was once told that he had the characteristics of an athlete despite the fact that he played golf but he didn’t buy the compliment. He even tried covering sports but the stars aligned for him to focus on news.
Jim got a unique exposure at the California University of Pennsylvania where he covered several high school football teams. As creative as he is Jim videotaped games with a camera, then edited the best moments for a local cable channel to air.
He also called plays for the athletic department at California University, and his dedication and concern made headlines during the 2000 elections.
However, Jim wasn’t focused on covering sports only. He was curious to go beyond news and that was how he quenched his curiosity by exposing himself to every single opportunity that came ahead.
Jim oversaw the nighttime operations of a Pittsburgh radio news department for two years. Additionally, he worked as a sports radio station reporter for a few Pittsburgh Pirates games.
His many years of hard work and a burning desire to work on live television came to pass when he was hired by KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh for six years. He was assigned different roles among them; traffic reporter, anchor desk, in the field, and co-hosting a Pittsburgh Steelers pre-game show.
His time at Pittsburgh came to an end and he was forced to make a different move. In fact, Jim said that the most difficult transition he has ever experienced was leaving Pittsburgh but he landed in safe hands.
In 2011 WCVB in Boston recruited him as a sports and news anchor/reporter, and he was immediately exposed to some of the biggest stories of the day.
2015 was yet another turning point in his career as he joined FOX 5 DC as a news anchor and television host. Up till today, he has carried on anchor duties for the highly recognized “Fox 5 News at 10,” and he currently presents “The Final 5”, a nightly political news program that airs at 11:30 p.m. and consistently outperforms late-night network programs.
