Eddie Piolin Sotelo Career Beginnings
From 2003 through 2013, Sotelo’s show “Piolin por la Manana” was aired on KSCA radio in Southern California and streamed nationwide. The show, which was exclusively in Spanish, received a 9.9 rating from listeners, giving Piolin the moniker “The Howard Stern of Spanish Radio.”
Piolin Por La Manana, or Tweety Bird in the Morning, was a popular radio program that aired for ten years.
It was known for its unrestrained personality humor, prank phone calls, audience participation such as “Piolnbomba,” where listeners could call in with their own jokes, and discussions about politics, particularly on the subject of reforming the immigration system.
These conversations, which featured longtime listeners and political personalities, gave Sotelo the idea to talk on the radio about what it was like to live as an immigrant without papers who later became a citizen of the United States in a widely publicized ceremony in 2008.
He was listed as one of the “100 Most Powerful People in Southern California” by the Los Angeles Times in 2006. As a result, he rose to prominence as one of America’s top radio hosts and was praised by a certain publication as “the new voice of immigrant rights.”
Sotelo joined SiriusXM satellite radio As part of the 2013 launch of the Spanish-language entertainment channel Pioln Radio. His radio program was unexpectedly ended by Univision Radio in July 2013 with no justification.
Within a week, it came to light that Sotelo was suspected of harassing Alberto “Beto” Cortez, a writer and producer for the show, in various ways, including physically, psychologically, and sexually.
Sotelo was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2013. He began airing “El Show de Piolin” on 40 stations in 2014 thanks to Entravision.
